This is a packaged service, which can provide any or all of the above: Server install, Documentation, and Disaster Recovery plan. This is administered as a one time event, and can be updated with any scheduled frequency, from monthly to yearly. A typical example of a Disaster Recovery Plan is outlined below.
1. A server is designated as the Disaster Recovery Server (DRS), which should be powerful enough to run all of the Cognos applications, the database, the LDAP and the Web Server. This can also be designated as the Test and Development Server for all Cognos apps (a recommended practice).
2. All of the above applications are installed and configured. A Migration plan is created and formalized for all of the metadata/data that needs to be moved over on a regular basis. The Migration Plan is then assigned to an operator, who then does a migration as a test.
3. All of the metadata is documented in a Metadata catalog. All documentation will be kept on the DRS; SNCL will keep an offsite copy.
4. A Disaster Recovery Plan is developed, which will detail procedures on how to make the DRS operational, how to communicate with the user community, and who are the responsible parties in case a disaster happens.
