BUSINESS CASE: Harry Fox encouraged companies they did business with to register themselves on their Company WebSite. This information was captured in an Oracle database. Harry Fox wanted to create an automated procedure that would allow these companies to run IWR reports pertaining to the status of their business, which provided secured information relevant to the external client.
TECHNICAL CASE: In order to do this, the following tasks needed to be performed: 1) Identify the new companies. 2) Add them to an Impromptu catalog, and add the appropriate security filters based on the type of company and company ID. 3) Add the company to the LDAP Directory Server, but do not create an UpFront Newsbox. 4) Copy the Impromptu catalog to 12 posting folder directories, which contained the IWR Report Sets. 5) Automate the process of republishing the report sets every night.
TECHNICAL CHALLENGE: When you add a user class in an Impromptu Catalog, the published IWR reports will not see that user class automatically; there is no way to make this work without republishing the report sets.
SOLUTION: Used WinBatch to run automated batch scripts, which ran the Impromptu report identifying new users, outputted them to a text file, and ran OLE Automation scripts to read each user class and add them, with security filters, to the Impromptu catalog, as well as the LDAP Directory. (Each report set was set to use implicit user class mapping). Then the WinBatch script copied the catalog to each posting folder (12); invoked WinZip command line to zip up each posting folder, and copied each zip file to its appropriate Report Store directory. The WinBatch Script then invoked an XML scipt which republished all of the report sets.
