11/11/04 - PPES Auditor New Version available. SNCL has released a new version of PPES Auditor, which includes support for Dimensional Usage tracking. These appear as new dimensions in the PPESAuditor model and cube. New measures include Dimensional Hits, Categories Accessed, and Categories Accessed per Hit. Other enhancements include Autosense version of PPES (supports 7.3 automatically), and better parsing technology which captures incomplete activity (activity in the log files that do not log the cube name or user).
10/12/04 - PPES Auditor New Version available. This new release of PPES Auditor contains all the files needed to create a PPESAuditorCube. The Impromptu Report, .iqd, and Transformer model have been developed to create a Powercube to analyze usage and performance data on your production PPES environment. New data extracted from the log files includes Response Time Group (total seconds per session /# requests) represented as a tiered dimension with the following buckets: < 30 Sec; 31 Sec-1 Min; 1-2 Min;2-5 Min; Over 5 Min. Other dimensions/measures include Hour of Day dimension, and Average Response Time measure. Also, the Audit Log Maintenance has been improved to include a Range of Dates to purge from the PPES Audit Log or the PPES Audit Collection History Log.
10/4/04 - Metadata Manager New Version available. SNCL has released its most powerful version of Metadata Manager to date. There are 3 significant features that are now included in the product: File Documentor Automation. In prior versions, you could only register one folder of files at a time. With File Documentor Automation, you select a base folder, and all files in the folder tree get registered in one operation. Activity Log. All messages that appeared on the screen in prior versions are now logged to an Activity log. In addition, all activity, including Registering Files, Registering Report Specs, and deleting any object, is recorded in the Activity Log. Reporting from the Activity Log will be forthcoming. Report Registry Automation. This is the most significant feature enhancement. In prior versions, only one report could be registered at a time. Now, all currently registered reports, all files in File Documentor, or selected reports can be registered at once. All activity and messages will be sent to the Activity log.
9/20/04 - SNCL Software Price Changes. Due to new development costs, as of Dec. 1, prices will change as follows: IWR Auditor - from $600 to $950; PPES Auditor - from $600 to $950; PPES-IWR Auditor - from $950 to $1450; Metadata Manager - from $2500 to $2750. Support costs as a percentage of license costs will not change, staying at 30%. Please note that any migration purchase (i.e. PPES Auditor to PPES-IWR Auditor) will require only the difference in the price of the two products (for the existing price structure, this would be $950-600 = $350). Existing subscribers can migrate using the existing price structure for 6 months after the price changes.
9/18/04 - SNCL Software Support Policy Change. Effective immediately, any Enhancement Request submitted from a subscriber that results in a new feature to a product, wil not be charged for the ehancement. Previously, approved Enhancement Requests resulted in charging the subscriber for the feature. For custom enhancements, the policy does not change. Custom enhancements are not distributed with the productand thus are subject to a development fee.
9/13/04 - PPES-IWR Auditor New Version Available. PPES-IWR auditor has been updated to spec, incorporating standard SNCL features such as an Impromptu catalog for custom reporting, standardized error trapping and messaging, more visual, up-to-date User Guide, etc. Typically, there will be a lag between incorporating new features and enhancements to the children products, and making those features available in the parent products. PPES-IWR Auditor now precisely reflects the features and functionality of PPES Auditor and IWR Auditor.
9/7/04 - IWR Auditor New Version Available. Updated catalog includes more reporting tables, updated join strategy. The major update to this version involves 1)a bug fix and 2)a subtle design enhancement. 1) IWR Audit logging does not always create the log file with the same name as the folder it is created in. The parsing logic assumed this, and therefore was altered to remedy this. 2)The renamed original log files were placed in the same folder level as the log folder, which caused the parsing program to search through an ever increasing number of folder items with each parse iteration. The code was changed to move the original log files to a parent directory, speeding up the parsing routine noticeably. Also, better error trapping and messaging was added to clarify when an error is displayed.
9/6/04 - New SNCL Software Notification System in Service. Starting 9/6/04, SNCL will be automatically sending software updates to your company e-mail designate. That way, you are automatically notified of software updates and sent the new version. These updates are new versions of the code, not patches that you apply. Therefore, please be careful about overwriting your code. If you would like have your data migrated to the new version, you can send a Request, and ftp your software to your personal ftp site. SNCL will keep track of all software upgrades sent, and all historical versions received.
8/30/04 - Metadata Manager New version is available. New features include an Impromptu Catalog, which exposes the Metadata Manager database for custom reporting with Impromptu, and publish ability to the Web via IWR. This new version provides major enhancements: A new form (Joins/Filters) provides a list of all Joins and Filters parsed from Reports (no reporting yet); Enhanced support for 2- and 3-level Subselect queries (these produced errors in prior versions); Support for crosstab reports; Enhanced Impact Reporting: All Reports give you the choice of Manual Choosing, All, Does not appear in any Report Spec, and Choose Report Spec; Report Spec parsing captures all tables and columns, including those that appear in the filter as pass through joins; Enhanced error trapping and better Error Messaging; Showing References for an Element shows all tables and columns that appear in Element Definitions, including Calculations; A new Catalog Report shows all of the Report Specs that are associated with a particular catalog, or a chosen group of catalogs. Subscribers, please copy a backup of your software to your personal FTP site to get your update.
8/23/04 - PPES Auditor New version is available. New features include an Impromptu Catalog, which exposes the main log tables of PPES Auditor. This allows you to use all the reporting power of Impromptu to create sophisticated usage reports. This also allows you to publish these reports to UpFront (IWR required). Other features include an updated Flash Demo. PPES Auditor now has a clean, consistent GUI with a look and feel that is emerging as the standard for SNCL software.
8/2/04 - Metadata Manager New version is available. New features include support for prompted reports; more convenient buttons for Data Sources, Columns and Tables access; the ability to support multiple Element Definition Source Files. Check out Change History for more details on these features (Subscribers only). Subscribers, please copy a backup of your software to your personal FTP site to get your update.
7/24/04 - PPES Auditor Flash Demo is now available for download, located on the PPES Auditor Overview page. The PPES Auditor provides a more complete visual demonstration of the product than Metadata Manager, since the mission of the software is more focused. It plays in about 5 minutes, and is available for download.
7/15/04 - SNCL is now providing "flash demos" of its products, with Metadata Manager as the first product. The five minute flash demo is available for download, located on the Metadata Manager Overview page. It includes a video player. Eventually, the Flash Demos will be available for all SNCL products. The demos will provide an overview of the product, a visual demonstration, and some slides on the effect of the features. The demos do not necessarily reflect the latest and greatest version of the product, which most likely will have added features. You can also request a CD.
7/9/04 - SNCL has just been accepted by Cognos as a Technology Partner. SNCL, with its low cost offerings and innovative software design, has been accepted into the Cognos Technology Partner Program. One of the main directives of the SNCL organization is to work with Cognos to provide a coherent migration strategy to ReportNet. SNCL will be laying out this strategy over the next six to nine months. SNCL will be working to provide not only export/import tools into the ReportNet environment, but help to provide dual-platform functionality that will allow Cognos owners to migrate users gracefully. Key to this strategy is SNCL's ability to provide synchronization of metadata between Framework Manager and Metadata Manager. SNCL will be publishing white papers on this subject over the coming months.
11/16/04 - SNCL develops "Batch Report Processing" for IWR. SNCL has developed an applet, that works with UpFront, that allows users to batch execute IWR Reports, and provide reuseable prompts to the user. This allows a user to create a "package" of reports and execute them at the same time, with a common set of prompt answers. The applet first lists all the reports a user has access to. The user checks the reports they want to execute. The next screen presents a list of prompts that are required to execute the reports. The reports can share prompts, or have no prompts at all. Then the user is presented with a summary screen, which lists all of the user's requests. When the user hits "Go", all the reports execute as per the output settings defined in the Report Properties.
This is a custom applet that was developed by SNCL, and not considered packaged software. The applet can be customized to meet specific needs, and implementation is required. For more information, please send a Request or call SNCL at 516-633-8214.
6/25/04 - Metadata Manager is available for purchase. "MM" is gaining recognition as the must have tool for Cognos deployments. MM combines Data Dictionary features with Impact Management in one elegant software package. New enhancement in the works: Automation of Report Spec registration.

5/27/04 - Metadata Manager DS is Coming!! Metadata Manager will be available on June 25th, but later on in the year SNCL will announce the introduction of Metadata Manager DS, which will have DecisionStream Catalog Import Support. Metadata Manager is the long awaited tool which provides standardization for clients who want to manage their Impromptu and Powerplay deployments. MM can parse Impromptu reports and .iqd's and provide all of the business elements and data sources used. This powerful feature allows companies to analyze business elements across all production reports, and prepare properly for ReportNet migration. Metadata Manager DS will include DecisionStream catalog import support. This can complete the picture by providing Data Target information as well as Data Source information concerning a business element. This is an invaluable tool for maintaining DecisionStream catalogs and data marts.
5/26/04 - SNCL will be providing support for Metrics Manager starting July 1st. Metrics Manager, the balanced scorecarding offering from Cognos, is the second "pillar" of Cognos' 3 pronged approach to CPM (Corporate Performance Management). The other two are Planning/forecasting (Cognos Planning) and Business Intelligence (Reportnet, Series 7).
4/28/04 - SNCL now provides support for Cognos ReportNet. ReportNet is Cognos' new BI platform, all web based and zero footprint. The ReportNet platform currently provides 2 areas of functionality, Query Studio and Report Studio, which replace Cognos Query and Impromptu/IWR, respectively. Framework Manager, included in ReportNet, provides the metadata layer for Query and Report Studio. Framework Manager replaces Architect.
