12/05/06 - Metadata Manager New Version is now available. Changes include:

1) AutoPrompts have been added - When MetMan detects a prompted report, it automatically inserts up to 10 "AutoPrompts", which help when reports are registered in batch. A check box has been added to the Report Spec Properties which indicates if the report is prompted. In prior versions, Impromptu would open and require the user to click OK in the Prompt screen, and there was no indication after registration that the report may contain Prompts. The Prompt Set functionality still exists, when Administrators still want to track Prompt usage.

2) Renaming Objects - Administrators can rename Data sources, Tables and columns in the application without having to reregister all the reports. There are some limitations, however; Filters/Joins and Element Definition calculations are not updated. This will be addressed in the next version.

3) Training Class for Metadata Manager - A one day Training Class is now available for Metadata Manager. Call or send a comment for details.

4) Upgrades to CRN and Cognos8 - Development has begun on incorporating features into Metadata Manager that will facilitate upgrades to CRN and Cognos8. Stay tuned...

10/25/06 - Metadata Manager New Version is now available. Changes include:

1) File Documentor enhancements - Registering files can be done with one click of the mouse. All file paths have indicators for Registering, and for Subfolders. You can now indicate which file paths you need scanning for files; clicking OK will scan all file paths indicated. Also, deleting files can be done by folder, or in batch. No need to delete associated Report Specs - this is done automatically.

2) "Nip and Tuck" - The File Documentor, Elements Library and Report Registry have cleaner screens, with only critical info. Properties buttons allow you to see less important object information. Screens now have a consistent look and feel. When you open MetMan, you arrive in the File Documentor, not the Elements Library.

3) Old code removed - Features like the Custodian Elements, and deleting Data Sources, Columns and Tables, have been removed. Scarcely used fields have been eliminated (# Distinct Values in an Element, for example). All user defined fields retain their information when a Report Spec is updated.

4) Crosstab Reports are now supported - the SQL that is generated, before the crosstab is constructed, is captured.

5) Updated MetadataManager catalog - the catalog has been enhanced with folders for "Files Management" and "Elements Management" to allow easier development of Impromptu reports for those subjects. In the coming versions, canned reports will be included.

9/15/06 - PPES-IWR Auditor New Version is now available. Changes include:

1) The Audit Collection History Log has been replaced with the Activity Log, where all error messages will be posted. 2) New Audit Process Definitions have been added, to restore parsed logs back into the app, for both PPES and IWR. This feature has value when the parser changes in subsequent versions of the product, or when old backup logs need to be reparsed. This routine will not double count activity. 3) Code has been changed internally that will pave the way for automation with command line scripting. Soon, external applications will be able to call the app and invoke audit collections. 4) The error trapping routines have been refined to recover better from parsing errors. Only the errant line in the log will be discarded, whereas with previous versions, either the parsing will stop, or the entire log will be dropped. 5) The application has a built-in upgrade facility, the functional equivalent to that in Metadata Manager.

8/16/06 - PPES-IWR Auditor New Version is now available. Changes include:

1) Completely rewritten parsing routines - captures more accurate log information. 2) New data model. 3) Updated cube with new dimensions (Report Events, Report Submit Hour of Day, improved Run Time and Render Time bands, new measures (Report Count, Report Submit Count, Report Event Count). 4) Better log administration: logs are now copied to the PPES-IWR Auditor folder, with similar name. Next version will allow reparsing of these logs. 5) Better error handling: If there is an error parsing a log, the process recovers by importing the valid logs. 6) Report Views and Report Executes have been replaced by Report Submits and Report Events. This allows better dissection of report generation activity. 7) Code has been added to allow updates of the software to be done by the user (Next version).

6/29/06 - Metadata Manager New Version is now available. This new version provides a built in upgrade facility. Users no longer need to upload their code to the ftp site for upgrades. This functionality will be implemented into the other SNCL products over the next few months.

In addition, a Hash Totals table has been added. This table totals the number of rows of all the critical tables used by MetMan, both at the beginning and end of every session. This helps to assure that upgrades performed successfully, and to monitor table sizes of the application tables over time. It can be accessed through the MetadataManager.cat Impromptu catalog, using Impromptu.

4/28/06 - Metadata Manager New Version is now available. This new version adds a new field in the File Documentor called "Exists". This field will be enabled when files are added to File Documentor. But when MetMan can not find a file based on its path, it will clear this flag. This will help in managing Cognos files on the network that move, or have been deleted. In addition, better error messaging has been added: All errors are logged to the Activity Log, starting with the word "Error:". Routines have been added to recover better from errors in the parsing routines, so that MetMan can handle many more files in batch.

2/13/06 - Metadata Manager New Version is now available. Over the next 3 months, Metadata Manager will be enhanced to include better integration of Cube Metadata. In this new version, a new object type called "Cube Report Spec" will appear in the references, on an Element, or Data Source, Column or Table, or any of these reports. This will provide a more complete picture of impact of one of these objects on either a Report Spec or a cube. New features currently in development will include Report Elements for a cube, a Report Spec Profile (which will include a list of Report Specs that are associated with a Cube), and full parsing ability for an MDL. Stay tuned.
