12/04/07 - Metadata Manager is now a "Powered By Cognos" solution. Metadata Manager has been recognized by Cognos as "Powered By Cognos" solution. Read up on it on the Cognos website, under Solutions, Powered by Cognos. Search on "Metadata". Metadata Manager is the only other "Powered by Cognos" solution for capturing metadata for Cognos 7 deployments (The other is Envisn), and the only one at its price point (under $10K).
12/03/07- Metadata Manager new version is now available. Updates include:
1) Multiple files with the same name, but different file paths, can be registered. MM adds an underscore and number to the Report Spec Name in the Report Registry to distinguish them.
2) The parsing routines have been rewritten to capture more complete data. The Calculation expressions for Element Definitions are more precise, and more complete. The limit is now 3500 characters, up from 1000 characters for a calculation. Data Source Column references now include the Element Definitions that are calculations.
3) You can now create User Defined Data sources, Tables, Columns, Elements, Element Definitions, and Reporting Elements. This allows for technical specifications creation before development or changes.
4) When registering files, now you can choose only the folders needed to be scanned. Previously, you needed all folders to be scanned, or the files would show that they did not exist.
08/05/07- PPES-IWR Auditor New version is now available. Updates include:
1)A fix was made to the PPES parser which had trouble parsing audit data from cubes with a large number of dimensions.
2) Restore from Backup in Batch - When Restoring from backup folders, you now can pick multiple folders to restore. This makes upgrading from the prior version easier, and consolidates the folders.
3) The audit process now automatically updates the audit cubes. This used to be a separate function, outside the application.
4) Launch buttons were added to the Audit Process Definition screen to open the audit cubes for both PPES and IWR.
05/01/07- PPES-IWR Auditor New Version is now available. Changes include:
1) The IWR log parse engine is 3x faster, and can parse up to 15,000 logs
2) Cognos 7.4 support for PPES and IWR audit logging
3) Better onscreen messaging that shows the status of an audit log collection
4) If installed on the same server as the IWR server, will automatically stop/start services
5) A user defined field called "Report Group" has been added to categorize reports. The field is included in the cube as a new dimension.
Note: No new feature functionality was added to the PPES side. the next version will incorporate a complete overhaul of the PPES parser. In addition, the current version of Metadata Manager has been tested, and is fully compliant with 7.4 .
02/07/07- Metadata Manager New Version is now available. Changes include:
1) Support for password protected catalogs. Initially, MetMan will prompt you for authentication to the catalog (if the catalog is not linked to Cognos common Logon). The catalog User Id and Password can be entered in File Documentor, in the File Properties of the catalog.
2) Data Source Renaming. Users can only rename Data Sources. Tables and columns can not be renamed. When a Data Source is renamed, a message is logged in the Activity Log. In addition, all references to data source columns, including Element Definition calculations and Joins/Filters, are qualified to the table level, not to the data source level.
3) New version behavior. When Metadata Manager changes structurally, a switch is set to automatically reregister Report Specs. Types of changes that will cause this are changes to the parsers, new information that gets parsed, etc. If a new version of Metadata Manager does not change the resultant metadata from the Report Spec (new reports, cosmetic and navigational changes), this switch will be turned off. This has value when using the "All Currently Registered Report Specs" for new versions. Going forward, this functionality will be more discerning (for example, a change to the Prompt parser will only affect prompted reports).
4) AutoPrompts - Now Metadata Manager sends 26 prompts to each prompted report. This has been increased from 20 in the prior version. The effect here is that if a report has 27 prompts, Metadata Manager will open the report and ask the user to act. Any less prompts in the report, no action is needed.
