6/22/04 - Q: What are the security considerations when registering Report Specs in Metadata Manager? A: There are no reported problems with Metadata Manager and security with Impromptu reports. There is no authentication needed to open an Impromptu report with NoExecute.
5/10/04 - Q: What's the difference between Metadata Manager and BI Manager? A: Metadata Manager is a component of BI Manager. Metadata Manager, by itself, will provide Cognos metadata from Impromptu reports, cubes, and (with Metadata Manager DS) DecisionStream catalogs. BI Manager provides the same functionality, but integrates that with Help Desk and Change Control context. With BI Manager, you can track the source of the change and justification (i.e. Why did we make that change 6 months ago?). Both have File Documentor, which registers all files in a particular folder, the file type, which softwarte package uses it, and the date it was registered.
5/2/04 - Q: If Cognos already comes with an audit collection utility for IWR, why offer another one? A: Cognos' IWR audit collection utility is somewhat unreliable, it deletes audit logs after parsing them, and reporting against it is difficult. In addition, there is no facility to do IWR and PPES audit collection in the same interface. IWR Auditor addresses all these issues. And you can upgrade to PPES-IWR Auditor for the difference in price - $295.
