BUSINESS CASE: The Marketing Department needed a visual breakdown of demographics and penetration across the geographic area of NYC by zip code and census tract. An outside contractor was providing the maps, which needed to be created manually, at a turnaround time of months.
TECHNICAL CASE: Cognos Visualizer was demonstrated and sold to the Marketing department for a fraction of the cost of producing the maps. MAPInfo provided the appropriate map files, to be used with Visualizer, and the Marketing Department provided their Subscribers cube, which provided over 50 Marketing dimensions to analyze, including 10 campaigns to track at any one time.
TECHNICAL CHALLENGE: The visualization took a day to develop. The only issue was providing the maps by census tract, which required help from the MAPInfo folks.
SOLUTION: The visualization provides OLAP functionality with the map of NYC for literally hundreds of variations on the data. This a critical tool that is used in not only identifying geographic areas of opportunity for Time Warner Cable, with drill through to subscriber candidates, but it is used to develop campaigns and promotions. Campaign success rates have doubled because of it.
